Passenger Equipment for Sale
The Louisville, New Albany and Corydon Railroad is offering for immediate sale the Budd RDC equipment that has been operated by the Corydon Scenic Railroad for the past six years. The primary equipment offering is a three-car train set consisting of two RDC-1s (88-seats each) and a RDC-9 (84 seats). All equipment was in operation until December, 2002 when the company ended its 2002 season, and has current COT&S and FRA blue cards. These three cars feature air conditioning and heating to insure comfortable temperatures for the passengers, as well as diaphragms that facilitate safe passage between cars when in the depot area.
This equipment is ideal for a broad range of passenger operations as the cars are bi-directional. The engineer only has to move a few simple controls in order to operate the train in the opposite direction. Time-consuming run-around moves in congested terminal areas are eliminated. A public address system has been installed that allows a narrator to make announcement throughout the train from a single microphone, but the system can also be operated independently in each car. The system also allows for audio tapes to be played in the same manner. Two of the cars have self-contained Microphor toilets and a similar facility could easily be added to the third car. One car also has a galley area that could be used for en-route snack service or souvenir sales.
The seating density allows the three-car set to comfortably handle more than two-hundred and fifty passengers. Large windows insure that all passengers have a clear view of the outside scenery. Underfloor engines and auxiliary equipment produce only limited noise inside the cars so that narration and/or music can be easily heard by the passengers. Air conditioning and sealed windows not only provide a comfortable temperature for the passengers, but also avoids the various dangers of open windows. Seats can be arranged facing in a single direction, or as two seats facing together. Budd RDCs provide a smooth and comfortable ride for the passengers under almost all track conditions. Passenger reaction to this equipment has been highly favorable.
