Brief History:
#9802 was built 4/52 as Budd s.n. #5502 as NYNH&H (New Haven) #21. The car later became PC #66 and Conrail #66, then Amtrak #17, and finally MARC #9802.
Engines:
Two Detroit diesel 6-110 engines, both engines are presently operational.
Air Conditioning:
Carrier 3F-40 units – system presently uses R-12 refrigerant but can be converted to R-134 with minimum work.
Brakes:
D-22 brake valves (COT&S good thru 3/04), M-38 brake stands.
FRA:
Blue card is current.
Restroom:
One Microphor toilet/other facility is used as storage area.
Glazing:
CFR Part 233 glazing in all windows.
Audio System:
System can be trainlined, or used only in a single car/also audio tape player.
Rebuilt:
Car was rebuilt by Mechtron/Wilmington, DE 9/79 for MARC.

General Comments: Car was in regular service thru mid-December, 2002. Car is ready for service at this time, pending a normal inspection of mechanical and electrical equipment. Certain annual maintenance work, such as changing of filters, recharging the a/c systems, checking for oil leaks, etc. needs to be completed before returning to regular service. Car has reliably operated approximately 2,000 miles annually on railroad during the past six seasons. All wheels and other systems are in good operating condition. Car does not have ditch lights or event recorder. All FRA safety appliances are in good working condition. Interior of car is complete, including baggage racks, and all interior lighting and heating are fully functional. Upholstery is in good condition. Some window glazing has a degree of clouding, but in general is in good condition. Car has four emergency windows.
